Advice can vary, this is what NINEAUTO recommend.
If your car is running well, it may be tempting to post pone an annual service and fall behind on routine oil and fluid changes. However, this can put serious wear and tear on key parts, and can be a false economy. Having a technician annually service, and look over your vehicle may also assist in the early detection of minor works before they become a major issue. When it comes to selling your Porsche, a history of consistent and timely servicing is also likely to assist the selling process and maximise resale value.
An Annual Service includes the following works:
- Change engine oil and oil filter
- Vehicle underside and engine compartment: Visual inspection for leaks (oils and fluids) and abrasion (lines and hoses)
- Underbody panels: visual inspection for completeness, installation and damage
- Coolant hoses: Check condition
- Radiators and air intakes: Visual inspection for external debris and blockage
- Coolant: Check level
- Brake system: Visual inspection of the brake pads and brake discs for wear
- Brake hoses and lines: Visual inspection for damage, routing and corrosion
- Drive shafts: Visual inspection of the dust boots for leaks and damage
- Tyres: Check condition and tyre pressure
- Check firewall and body drains for debris
- Check the door, lid locks and safety hook of the front lid for secure seating and function
- Vehicle lighting: Check function
- All headlights: Check setting
- Horn: Check function
- Windshield wiper/washer system, headlight washer: Check fluid level and nozzle settings
- Battery: Check condition and electrolyte level
- Electrical equipment, warning and indicator lights: Check function
Every second year NINEAUTO recommend your car has an Intermediate Service, which is essentially an Annual Service plus a brake bleed and change of brake fluid.
And then there’s the Major Service… this does vary by Porsche model, however your service book is your best guide with recommendation based on time and kilometers. Appropriately timing a Major Services become a bit trickier if you don’t rack up the standard amount of kilometres each year, or if you have an older Porsche with a ‘colourful’ service history. NINEAUTO are always happy to review your car’s service history and make a recommendation. (It’s not uncommon to have customers send scanned copies of their service records for us to review and assess.) In the absence of records, NINEAUTO are also able to undertake a visual inspection and give a recommendation.
To maximise the value you get from your annual service it’s a good idea to raise any concerns or queries you may have regarding your cars performance. Your mechanic is then better equipped to deliver more detailed and focused feedback once your car has been checked over. Sharing your personal knowledge of any changes to the car performance will greatly assist in the timely pick up of mechanical issues. It’s often during an annual service that outstanding works that need to be addresses are identified. If these items aren’t urgent, they can then be planned and prioritised for a later date that suits.
